
The Society for Humanism in Medicine (SHIM) is an interdisciplinary group
of healthcare professionals committed to nurturing various aspects of humanism
in medicine. The Society meets annually to hear a series of seminars and
discussions on a relevant theme in a provocative atmosphere that fosters
intellectual and spiritual growth and good fellowship. The Society is a non-profit
organization with an international membership.
SHIM was previously known as The International Society for Advancement of Humanistic
Studies in Medicine (ISFAHSIM). The name was changed in July, 2004.
The 42nd Annual
Conference was held Feb. 25 - 27, 2012 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Denver,
with the topic, "Fairness and Solidarity in Health Care," and Feb. 27
- March 4, 2012 at the Snowmass
Resort, with the topic, "A Celebration of the Best of SHIM,"
Fredrik Broekhuizen, MD, President.
